Whole grains are good for me, right?

Wrong!  They are better for you than processed or "refined" grain because whole grains contain fiber, but compared to other carbs like vegetables and fruits, they're relatively unhealthy.  Here's why:

Most common grains like wheat, rye and barley contain GLUTEN (say GLUTEN with a deep dark voice).  Many of you have heard of GLUTEN and how bad it is. (If you haven't, google it).  It can cause celiac disease, migraines, irritable bowel, nasty farts, and many other things...

All grains contain lectins and phylic acid.  These nasty little buggers are otherwise known as anti-nutrients.  Kinda like anti-matter (think black whole), they cause things to virtually go away, good and bad.  Phylic acid, in particular binds to calcium, magnesium, zinc and iron.  Those minerals then pass through your system without being absorbed as well.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you that you must NEVER eat grains.  (Except starting monday and for the thirty days thereafter, of course).  That would be unrealistic and let's face it, spaghetti TASTES good.  Especially when your wife is Italian and makes a mean sauce. (Conrad is stading on your shoulder, whispering, "sub spaghetti squash", in your ear). However, know what you are putting into your body and try to make it habit of putting good fuel in the tank.  There's a plethora of information out there on grains.  Read up and make an informed decision about their value.

Today, warm up with:

500m Row

10: jump squats, pull-ups, ring dips, knees to elbows

Skill:

3x Burgener warm-up

5x Three position clean (pockets, mid-thigh, ground)

WOD:

"Death by Thrusters"

-One thruster in the first minute, two in the second, three in third, etc to failure...

Hip flexibility is important.  Big men can't be flexible though, right?  Dave Jr.  All 6'+,  265+ pounds of him.  That is not a small child's foot under him.
